Fun and spooky cookies perfect for Halloween gatherings, simple to make with a delightful buttery flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Almonds (for topping)
  • Red food coloring (optional for effect)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking.
  2. Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder in another bowl. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Shape small pieces of dough into finger-like forms, about 3 inches long.
  6. Add an almond at the tip of each cookie to resemble a fingernail.
  7. Create indentations along the cookie to mimic knuckles using a knife.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on a wire rack and brush with red food coloring if desired.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for the best texture. Ensure the dough is not too crumbly; add a teaspoon of milk if needed.
