A delightful and fun dessert perfect for Halloween, featuring a chocolatey flavor and playful spider decoration.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies
  • 1/2 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 package of candy eyes
  • 8-10 Oreo cookies (for the spider legs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk the dry ingredients together. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and boiling water. Mix until smooth.
  2. Pour the batter into a greased and parchment-lined 15×10-inch jelly roll pan. Spread it evenly and bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Place a clean kitchen towel on your counter, dust it with powdered sugar, and flip the cake onto the towel. Carefully peel away the parchment paper. Starting from one short side, roll the cake up tightly in the towel and let it cool completely.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whip heavy cream until it begins to thicken. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in crushed Oreo cookies to combine.
  5. Once the cake is completely cool, unroll it carefully. Spread the Oreo cream filling evenly over the cake, leaving a narrow border around the edges. Roll the cake back up without the towel and place it seam-side down.
  6. Spread chocolate frosting over the top of the cake. To create spider legs, cut Oreo cookies in half and position them on each side of the cake. Add candy eyes on top to finish the spooky look.

Notes

Dust the towel with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Keep an eye on baking time to avoid dryness.
