A delightful twist on classic mashed potatoes, blending the creaminess of potatoes with the fresh flavor of celery.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2–3 celery stalks, finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup milk (add more as needed)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes and celery: Add the cubed potatoes and diced celery to a large pot of salted water.
  2. Boil until tender: Bring to a boil and cook for 12–15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  3. Drain and dry: Once cooked, drain well and return the potatoes and celery to the pot. Allow them to sit for a minute to remove excess moisture.
  4. Mash together: Add the butter and start mashing the potatoes and celery together until combined.
  5. Incorporate milk: Slowly pour in the milk while mashing until you reach a smooth and creamy consistency.
  6. Season to taste: Stir in salt, pepper, and optional garlic. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve: Serve warm, topped with an extra pat of butter if desired.

Notes

Drain well before mashing to avoid watery potatoes. Start with less milk and add gradually for desired creaminess.
